Introduction

This guide will provide Installation instruction for installing a Xirgo 63xx with the Volvo Diagnostic Backbone Harness and applies to the following:

  • 2018+ Volvo (All)
  • 2018+ Anthem (AN)
  • 2018+ Granite (GU/GR)
  1. Record serial number You will need the serial number to link the unit to the vehicle and to verify operation. It is best to record the S/N before starting installation.

  2. Amber Cellular
    • Amber Cellular

    • Solid - Ignition ON; Cellular network lock

    • Flashing - Ignition OFF

    • Fast Flashing - Ignition ON; Searching for cellular network

    • Bluetooth

    • Flashing - Bluetooth connected

    • Green - GPS

    • Flashing - Satellite count +1

  7. Power distribution junction box should look like this Mack

    • Fuse & Expansion information label is located on the back side of the power distribution junction box cover panel

    • Included fuse may need to be installed. The fuse locations are identified on the label

  8. Locate terminating resistor Example locations -

    • Top front left corner of power distribution module

    • Accessed from front of center dash; under power distribution module

  9. Identify J1939 (DL1) terminating resistor.
    • Identify J1939 (DL1) terminating resistor.

    • Clearly identified on label as DL1 J1939

    • DO NOT CONNECT TO DL3 J1939 !

    • Found in 2019+ trucks. See next step for legacy label & identification

  10. Truck should not be running when disconnecting or connecting anything to the J1939 backbone / terminating resistor! Remove terminating resistor
    • Truck should not be running when disconnecting or connecting anything to the J1939 backbone / terminating resistor!

    • Remove terminating resistor

    • Install the terminating resistor into the universal back bone diagnostic harness provided

    • This must be installed for the vehicle to operate correctly!

    • Do not attempt to start the truck with out the terminating resistor installed!

    • Plug the remaining connector from the universal back bone diagnostic harness into where the terminating resistor was removed

  11. Plug the2018+ power adapter into the universal back bone diagnostic harness 3 pin at end of cable
    • Plug the2018+ power adapter into the universal back bone diagnostic harness

    • 3 pin at end of cable

    • Locate Power Expansion plug

    • Mack - Located top of dash

    • Volvo - Located under power distribution module close to J1939

    • Check for +12V battery / constant power

    • If no power is present a fuse may need to be installed. Refer to the label on the bottom of the power distribution cover panel for identification

    • Once +12V battery / constant power is verified, plug into the harness

  12. Using the 24 pin power harness, locate and connect an Ignition source.  The device will be supplied Battery and Ground through the diagnostic connector & harness.
    • Using the 24 pin power harness, locate and connect an Ignition source. The device will be supplied Battery and Ground through the diagnostic connector & harness.

    • Wire colors:

    • Red = Battery

    • Not used, Do Not Connect. Insulate wire and secure excess wire.

    • White = Ignition

    • Ignition can be found at a connector similar to the one used for battery/ground.

    • Black = Ground

    • Not used, Do Not Connect. Insulate wire and secure excess wire.

  13. Plug the 14 pin ECMD cable end into the device.
    • Plug the 14 pin ECMD cable end into the device.

    • Plug the 24 pin I/O harness connector into the device if present.

  14. Wire colors may change, always verify the pin number. Input 1=Pin 6; (+) Positive input Input 2=Pin 7; (-) Negative input

  15. Plug the universal back bone diagnostic harness  into the provided Hardware adapter cable Picture 2 Reminder - This is the 14 pin end that plugs into the device.
    • Plug the universal back bone diagnostic harness into the provided Hardware adapter cable

  16. Find a location for device to be installed.
    • Find a location for device to be installed.

    • Unit needs to be mechanically secured with Zip-tie, Velcro, etc...

    • Device should be installed (sticker side up) with a clear line of site out of the vehicle.

    • Device will work through glass, plastic, and most composites.

    • Do Not place directly under metal

    • Secure cables along the way, staying clear of any moving parts.

    • Verify operation through the Reveal Hardware installer app or call the Reveal Technician Support line to verify install at 866-908-1165

    • Download the Reveal Hardware Installer application for iOS and Android at the Apple store and Google store Apple App Store & Google Play
