Install and set up an Vehicle Data Device with Reveal Hardware Installer app

This article explains how to set up a Vehicle Data Device (VDD) using the Reveal Hardware Installer app.

The workflow supports VDD installation with Y-cable and direct plug in.

Warning

If you are installing a Vehicle Data Device in an emergency vehicle, ensure that you read the note in Step 3.

Step 1: Select work ticket

  1. Log in to the Reveal Hardware Installer app using your Verizon Connect login details.
  2. Select the work ticket.
  3. Tap Scan device.

Step 2: Identify the device

  1. Enter or scan the device serial number.
  2. Select the installation line item.
  3. Tap Next.

Step 3: Check compatibility

  1. Scan the VIN or enter the year, make and model of the vehicle.

  • If you cannot find your make and model in the list, enter the following:
  • Year: The year the vehicle was manufactured.
  • Make: Select 'Other'.
  • Model: 'Other'.
  • For emergency vehicles: Do not scan or enter the VIN manually, instead enter the following information:
  • Year: The year the vehicle was manufactured.
  • Make: Select 'Emergency vehicle'.
  • Model: Select one of the following: 'Police Vehicle', 'Ambulance', 'Fire Engine', or 'Other'.
  1. Select the confirmation checkbox and tap CONFIRM.

    In some older vehicles, the Vehicle Data Device only operates in GPS mode. This means that some features, such as getting odometer readings and diagnostic troubling shooting codes from the vehicle are unavailable. You are still able to track the vehicle and receive harsh driving alerts.

Step 4: Choose installation method

  1. On the How do you want to install your device? screen, choose one of the following:

    • VDD with no cable (to install the device without using a cable)
    • VDD with Y-cable - to hide the device and keep the OBD-II port free

Step 5: Prepare to test installation

  1. Confirm that the tracker is in it final installed state.
  2. Select the checkboxes to confirm.
  3. Tap Test installation.

Step 6: Verify network and GPS

  1. On the Test and network and GPS screen, Reveal Hardware Installer will try to connect to Verizon Connect and then acquire a GPS fix.

If a GPS fix isn't found within 3 minutes, troubleshooting options will appear. You can also choose to continue the installation; the GPS should connect once the vehicle starts moving.

  1. Choose Confirm location.

Step 7: Enter vehicle data

  1. On the Vehicle identity screen, enter the vehicle information and choose Save.

    Complete and accurate vehicle information allows Verizon Connect to provide better information about your vehicle.

  2. Enter the following information:
    • Vehicle name (mandatory)
    • Licence plate number (mandatory)
    • Vehicle number
    • VIN
    • Year, Make, Model
    • Fuel type
    • Tank capacity
    • Fuel efficiency (city)
    • Fuel efficiency (highway)
    • Current odometer reading
  3. Tap Next.

Step 8: Confirm installation

  1. On the QA Test screen, tap Next.
  2. On the Device installed screen, choose Next.

Step 9: Check in

  1. On the Device details screen, tab Check in.
