EAT mounting and orientation tips
Nose Mounted 7-pin (externally secured harness)
Mounting location and orientation guidance
Nose mounted 7-pin (externally secured harness)
- Mount the asset tracker to the trailer skin 3 feet (0.9 metres) or higher above the top of the 7-pin connector and just to the right of the rivet channel.
- Route the harness downward to the trailer’s cable management box. Secure the harness along the way using cable mounts to make certain it does not interfere with normal operation of the glad hands and 7-pin connector.
- Push the harness down through the upper and lower channels of the cable management box and into the strike plate cavity, then route the required length back out and up to the 7-pin connector.
- Clip off and save the external fuse holders attached to the EAT’s for use later in the process, and flush cut the unused wires at the harness sheath and use electric tape or heat shrink tubing to protect the wiring.
- Coil the unused portion of the harness and zip tie it to adjacent wiring concealed within the strike plate area beneath the trailer.
- Zip tie the exposed portion of the harness to adjacent wires entering the 7-pin box.
Cable Management Box and Strike Plate Cavity
- Remove the 7-pin cover plate to expose the internal connectors then route the EAT harness through the entry grommet and into the 7-pin box to make power and ground connections
- Remember to reattach the weatherproof fuse holder to the EAT’s red power wire.
Flatbed container trailer
In this use case, the customer has run a power drop out circuit from the SAE J560 7-pin to their preferred mounting location on the side of their flatbed container hauling trailers.
Lowboy Trailer
In this use case, the customer requested the EAT be mounted further back on the trailer body near the breakaway system battery this trailer is equipped with. This is a comparatively covert and uncommon installation location more difficult for potential thieves to notice.
Mounting orientation and location guidance
Mounting the device vertically on a vertical surface
When mounting the device vertically on a vertical surface, the preferred orientation is with the Verizon check mark right side up. This puts the status button at the bottom where it is less exposed to the elements.
Mounting the device horizontally on a vertical surface
When mounting the device horizontally on a vertical surface, the preferred orientation is with the device label (label not shown in the picture) facing down. This will help keep the label from getting worn by the elements.
Mounting the device on a horizontal surface
When mounting the device on a horizontal surface, have the Verizon check mark, that is, the front of the device, facing up. Mounting the device facing down is not preferred, as doing so can impact reporting accuracy.
