Read this first

Maintain a safe work environment

  • Only trained and qualified technicians can perform installations.
  • Use personal protective equipment if required (protective goggles, respiratory/ear protection, and so on).
  • Ensure the workplace is dry and sufficiently lit.
  • Pedal actuation can cause injuries.
    • Switch transmission to "neutral" and engage parking brake.
    • Secure vehicle against rolling using chocks.
    • Fasten a clearly visible note to steering wheel indicating work is being performed.

Safety guidelines

Throughout the entire connection procedure, the voltage must be turned off.

The positive voltage 12/24 VDC and the positive voltage after contact must be protected by a blade fuse of between 2A and 3A.

  • Use the device only for its intended purpose.
  • Do NOT open the Raliacom unit.
  • Do NOT drill into the device housing.
  • The device safety may be compromised if:
      • Device is not firmly fastened
      • Device has suffered from transportation damages
      • Temperature limits are exceeded
      • Device comes into contact with water
      • Device is visibly damaged
  • Always follow the vehicle manufacturer's specifications and instructions.
  • Observe all respective company accident regulations, as well as all regional and national regulations.

Step 1. Verify components in installation kit

  • RaliacomV4 harness kit (Part number: CKH-IE-RAL-001-01-00) includes the following:
    • Raliacom main harness
      (Part number: CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 )
    • FMS adaptor cable
      (Part number: CBH-IE-RAL-002-01-00 )
    • OCP-CAMERA-3 Wire (Power lead)
  • T-connector (Tachograph interface cable)
    (Part number: CBU-IE-TAC-001-01-00)
  • Raliacom B2 - Vehicle tracking unit
    (Part number: 011002)
  • CANCrocodile contactless reader (J1939 CANCroc)
    (Part number: U12 24 LO.7S)
  • Panic/Privacy button (Optional)
    (Part number: 4C764)

The CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 is to be superseded by CBH-IE-RAL-001-04-00 which includes a connector for immobilisation. If Immobilisation is required a CBU-IE-IMR-001-01-00 (Immobilisation Relay Harness for 12V or 24V Relay) will also be required.

The tachograph interface cable has been updated and the new part number is CBU-IE-TAC-001-01-00. This harness has improved shielding and contains a loop wire to assist with CANBus termination.

Step 2. Connect cables and antenna

  1. Locate the CN1 (16-pin) and CN2 (20-pin) cables.
  2. Connect cables into the correct connectors on the Raliacom B2 unit, as shown below.
  3. Find a suitable place for the antenna (round disk).
    Note: We strongly recommend mounting the antenna on the windshield.
    When choosing a mounting location:
    • To ensure a strong network signal, do not mount under metal. The antenna can be placed under plastic.
    • To avoid electromagnetic interference, do not mount near other electronic devices such as Bluetooth hands free, electronic tool tag, or GPS navigator.
  4. Mount with the flat (sticky) side facing the sky.
  5. Locate the twin antenna wire connector ports on the back of the VTU and connect the twin antenna wires securely:
    • Plug the FAKRA BLUE (GPS) in the BLUE connector.
    • Plug the FAKRA PURPLE (GSM) in the PURPLE connector.


Step 3. Connect harness to the vehicle's data bus

For vehicles with FMS enabled


Make sure the vehicle ignition is turned OFF before starting the installation.

Secure any loose wires using cable ties.

  1. Plug the FMS connector on the Raliacom FMS Adaptor Cable harness (CBH-IE-RAL-002-01-00) into the vehicle’s standard FMS socket.
  2. Connect only the following connectors together between the CBH-IE-RAL-002-01-00 and CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 harnesses:

    • CC1
    • PWR

Do not plug anything into the following connectors on the CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 unless instructed to: P1 (TACHO), P5 (CC2), or P10 (BUZZER).

For vehicles that have an FMS connector present and disabled but power present

  1. Plug the FMS connector on the Raliacom Cable FMS Adaptor Cable harness (CBH-IE-RAL-002-01-00) into the vehicle’s standard FMS socket.
  2. Connect the PWR connector between the CBH-IE-RAL-002-01-00 and CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 harnesses only. Do not connect the CC1 connector.
  3. Install J1939 CANCroc into CC1 on the CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 harnesses. See Step 4. Install J1939 CANCroc (Optional).

Do not plug anything into the following connectors on the CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 unless instructed to: P1 (TACHO), P5 (CC2), or P10 (BUZZER).

For vehicles where no power is available on the on the vehicle's FMS connector

If no power is available on the vehicle’s FMS connector or FMS connector is not present, connect the power signals (GND, “Ignition Live” and Permanent Live) directly to the vehicle (3-wire install).

  1. Wire the OCP-CAMRA-3 Wire power harness to the relevant power, switched power (ignition), and ground points in the vehicle and secure with insulation tape where required.
  2. Connect the connector on the OCP-CAMRA-3 Wire power harness to the PWR connector on the main CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 harnesses
  3. Install J1939 CANCroc into CC1 on the CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 harnesses. See Step 4 - Install J1939 CANCroc (Optional)

Consult the truck-specific installation guide for more information on direct vehicle connections (without standard FMS connector).

The Raliacom FMS adaptor cable harness (CBH-IE-RAL-002-01-00) is not used.

Do not plug in anything into the following connectors on the CBH-IE-RAL-001-03-00 unless instructed to: P1 (TACHO), P5 (CC2), P10 (BUZZER).

Step 4. Install J1939 CANCroc (Optional)

  1. Connect the Raliacom unit to the CAN-bus by attaching the CANCroc to the CAN wires in the engine. Open the CANCroc.
  2. Connect the CANCroc device to the CAN HI and CAN LO wires of the vehicle, in accordance with the markings printed inside the CANCroc device (CAN HI is closest to the hinge and CAN LO is closest to the closure clip).
  3. Close the CANCroc. Ensure the CAN wires cannot significantly move. The CAN wires should be tightly twisted against the CANCroc.
  4. Pass a cable tie between the CAN HI and CAN LO wires and around the reader to secure the CANCroc's case.
  5. Check the CANCroc LEDs
    • Blinking green indicator: detecting signals.
    • Red indicator: power on.
  • Plug the CANCroc plug into the 6-way white Molex connector (CC1) on the main harness

    The following image shows a completed installation for a heavy goods vehicle.


Step 5. Install and test an immobiliser (Optional)

Install and test the immobilizer as described in the immobiliser installation guide.

Step 6. Install and test Panic/Privacy button (Optional)

The panic and privacy features are together on one piece of hardware.

To install the Panic/Privacy button:

  1. Find a location on the dashboard that is close to the ignition switch and within cable reach of the VTU's location.
  2. Verify the desired location for the switch assembly with the customer.
  3. Verify there is sufficient space behind the location where hole is to be drilled.
  4. Drill a 12mm hole through the dashboard at the agreed upon location.
  5. Place the washer with serrated edge away from the switch assembly.
  6. Feed the cable through the hole, plug first.
  7. Secure the switch in place by tightening the fixing nut onto the threaded back on the switch.
    Installation of the Panic button should look similar to this image:
    Do not over-tighten or you may strip the thread on the switch.
  8. Connect the plug on the switch assembly cable into Socket P9 labelled "PANIC". Switch_Assembly.jpeg
  9. Contact Customer to enable the Panic/Privacy feature. The Rep will send SMS signals and request that you test the features as described in the following section.

Test panic mode

You can enable panic mode at any time, including when in Privacy mode or when the ignition is off

  • To enable panic mode, press and hold the button for more than six seconds. A blinking red light appears on the button’s LED.
  • To disable panic mode, press and hold the button for 10 seconds. Once you release it, the LED turns off.
    After one hour, Panic mode automatically is automatically cancelled, and the LED turns off.

Test privacy mode

You can only enable privacy mode when the ignition switch is on.

  • To enable privacy mode, press and hold the button for more than one second but less than six seconds. A steady LED “on condition” is displayed.
  • To disable privacy mode, use one of the following methods:
    • Press and hold the button for more than one second but less than six seconds. The LED indicator turns off.
    • When you turn off the ignition, privacy mode is disabled immediately.
    • When you select panic mode, privacy mode is immediately disabled.

Step 7. Connect Remote Download (RDL)

Remote Download (RDL) allows the retrieval of tracking data from the tachograph. Not all tachograph models support RDL. Ensure you are connecting to a digital tachograph, and either a VDO or Stoneridge model.

Methods of Connection FMS

If the C/D connectors are free, use the tacho cable harness (CBH-UK-RAL-001-002-04) to connect directly to the tachograph.

C/D connectors are not free with no active equipment

If the C/D connectors have a device plugged in but no active equipment present, follow these steps:

  • Verify there is no active equipment by measuring the voltage between the vehicle ground wire and pin 5 of the pre-existing equipment connector which is plugged in the tachograph C-connector. The voltage meter will read ±3V if there are active telematics units.
  • If no active equipment is detected, disconnect the existing connector(s). Then you are free to use the C/D connectors.
  • If you do not use the connectors, add a termination resistor to the connector(s) you unplugged. (Even if not active, there can be timeout errors if the connector is not properly terminated.)

C/D Connectors with active equipment connected

If the C/D connectors are NOT free AND connected equipment is active, use the T-connector to connect both the Raliacom and the pre-existing equipment to the C/D connector(s).

Follow these steps:

  1. Carefully pull out the tachograph, using appropriate tools.
  2. Use a cable connector such as the T-connector (or Y-connector) to tap into the C-connector at the rear of the tachograph.
  3. Connect the WHITE and GREY wires from the VTU to C-connector, pin 5 and pin 7 at the back of the tachograph, as shown in the following image.

C-connector is free with no RDL signal

If the C-connector is free but not receiving RDL data, use the spare red C-connector located on the tachograph cable.

For Tachograph Remote Download to function, a resistance of 60 ohm is required.

With all devices connected, test the resistance between pins 5 and 7 of the C plug.

If the resistance reads 120 ohm, or if no Tachograph connection is established, cut the white loop wire and test again.


Configure Stoneridge Tacho for RDL

To configure the Stoneridge tachograph for data output, insert a company card (not a driver’s card) into slot 1 of the tachograph.


With the company card inserted, follow the instructions below.

  1. Insert the company card (driver card is not sufficient).
    The device will process the card and display ‘Processing card complete’.
  2. Press OK to access the menu.
  3. Press the down arrow until you see ‘SETTINGS’.
  4. Press OK.
  5. Press the down arrow until you see ‘PARAMETERS’.
  6. Press OK.
  7. Press the down arrow until you see ‘D8 DATA FORMAT’.
  8. Press OK.
  9. Press the down arrow until you see ‘SRE’’.
  10. Press OK.
  11. When the device display ‘CHANGES SAVED’, Press OK.
  12. Remove the company card.

Step 8. Connect sensor inputs


Wire colours can change on these harnesses so we will use the pin positions on the Molex and, most importantly, the labels on the ends of the short wires.

Using the above image, the Molex pin numbers start at “1” in the bottom right-hand corner of each plug and run right to left, then they continue along the top row in the same way.

So, the bottom left pin of the 16-way Molex is number “8”

The bottom left pin of the 20-way Molex is number “10”

Connect inputs as listed below (Input 1 is reserved for Panic/Privacy):

  • Left LED (GPS):
    • LED solid red: Good GPS fix, good satellite signal acquired.
    • LED blinking twice every second: low precision fix, signal acquired but with low precision.
    • LED off: No GPS fix, no signal from the satellites.
  • Centre LED (BATTERY):
    • Orange while the internal battery is charging.
    • Green when the battery is fully charged.
  • Right LED (GSM):
    • Flashes yellow twice if the unit is communicating properly with the network.

Step 10. Contact Customer Support

Once the installation is complete, call VZC Customer Support centre to check-in.

Contact Customer Support before replacing any of the dash panels.

Required Information

Have the following information ready:

  • Name of Asset (ex. Service Truck 51) including year, make, and model, VIN#, and License plate.
  • Tacho serial number. The serial number is printed on the data label on the tacho printout.

Check-in Process

During the check-in process the Support Rep will perform several checks, including the following:

  • Installation Type: The Rep will ask if the installation is FMS or Contactless.
  • Ignition On/Off: The Rep will ask you to cycle the ignition to verify that the unit is reporting ignition status.
  • GPS Signal: The Rep will check for a GPS signal. Be sure the vehicle is outdoors with a clear view of the sky and that the antenna connections are secure.
  • CAN-bus Speed: The Rep will ask you to start the engine to enable auto-detection and ensure CAN-bus speed/baud rate is detected. The process usually takes 1-2 minutes, but a full detection cycle may take up to 25 minutes.
  • Remote Download: The Rep will check the connection to the tachograph for RDL.

Step 11. Finalise installation

After the installation is verified by Customer Support, follow these steps:

  1. Reassemble the vehicle dashboard.
  2. Ensure that all components are working as expected.
  3. Ensure that all dashboard covers are replaced.


Verizon Connect shall have no liability whatsoever for any damages that arise from, or are connected with, your use of our services, including the GPS tracking hardware and dash cams, in a manner contrary to the(se) instructions or in violation of law and/or our agreement. Tracking hardware connected to the diagnostic port in any vehicle that has third-party devices also connected to the diagnostic port can cause interference or loss of functionality of the third-party device. These third-party devices include, but are not limited to, wheelchair lifts, lifesaving equipment, emergency lighting, and radar guns. If such a conflict exists, contact Verizon Connect support to have the tracking hardware configured to support the third-party device. Failure to do so relieves Verizon Connect of all liability for damages that arise from or are connected with your use of the devices. Installed devices may only be removed and transferred to another vehicle if the second vehicle has been tested for compatibility, as per the(se) instructions. Transfers between vehicles which do not follow the(se) instructions will void any and all warranties from Verizon Connect, and relieve Verizon Connect of all liability for damages that arise from or are connected with your use of the devices.
