The installer can identify and connect to common engine and electrical systems on vehicles and assets; such as control modules, sensors, trigger wires, alternators, starters, and solenoids. The installer can use pull-up and pull-down resistors, relays, and diodes.

Time required: 20-30 minutes

This guide explains how to install an immobiliser on a vehicle. It is a guide for Reveal customers who are using any of the following devices:

  • CalAmp 26xx
  • CalAmp 42xx
  • Raliacom

In this guide:

Overview
Step 1: Begin the vehicle tracker installation
Step 2: Gather your tools
Step 3: Obtain the required parts
Step 4: Identify the parts
Step 5: Cut the relay wire (24-volt installations only)
Step 6: Connect the immobilisation relay harness to the vehicle
Step 7: Connect the device harness
Step 8: Test the immobiliser
Step 9: Complete the vehicle tracker installation

Overview

A Verizon Connect immobiliser works by interrupting the vehicle starter circuit. The immobiliser is controlled by a single pole changeover relay that is driven by a vehicle tracker.

For further information about relays, see Overview guide: Relays.

The image below shows the setup of the relay and the vehicle tracker.

Relay contacts 30 and 87a are Normally Closed (NC).

  • When contacts 30 and 87a are closed, they allow the vehicle to start.
  • The vehicle is prevented from starting when the ignition is ON and the immobiliser is active.

Step 1: Begin the vehicle tracker installation

  1. Refer to the relevant vehicle tracker installation guide:
  2. Perform the vehicle tracker installation as far as the section about adding optional peripherals.

Step 2: Gather your tools

Depending on the vehicle type, you may need the following tools:

  • Dash panel removal tools
  • Digital multimeter
  • Soldering iron and solder
  • Wire cutters
  • Work light
  • Zip ties

Step 3: Obtain the required parts

The following parts are required:

  1. Immobilisation relay harness (part number CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00)
  2. Vehicle tracker harness:

    Required for CalAmp installations:
    • T-harness (part number: CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00), and
    • CalAmp 26xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00), or
CalAmp 42xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-005-01-00)
The T-harness is supplied with the immobiliser relay harness.
The CalAmp harness is supplied with the CalAmp device.

    Required for Raliacom installations:
    • Raliacom harness (part number CBH-IE-RAL-001-04-00)
The Raliacom harness is supplied with the Raliacom device.

Step 4: Identify the parts

Immobilisation relay harness

Part number: CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00

The part number is on the bag label.

Vehicle tracker harness

CalAmp installations require a T-harness and a CalAmp harness.
Raliacom installations require a Raliacom harness only.

CalAmp installations

  • T-harness (part number: CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00)
The part number is on the T-harness label.

Identify the two large connectors and the 6-pin connector on the T-harness.

  • CalAmp harness:
    • CalAmp 26xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00), or
CalAmp 42xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-005-01-00)

Identify the large male connector on the CalAmp harness.

Raliacom installations

Step 5: Cut the relay wire (24-volt installations only)

For 24-volt installations, cut the white wire on the immobilisation relay harness.
The white wire is labelled ”Cut for 24V installations”.

For 12-volt installations, leave the white wire uncut.

Step 6: Connect the immobilisation relay harness to the vehicle

  1. Use a digital multimeter to identify the crank wire in the vehicle.
Vehicles that have an ignition key switch may have an accessible crank wire at the switch location.
Vehicles that have a push button start may require a connection at a fuse board or control panel elsewhere in the vehicle. Check the vehicle owner's manual for suggested locations for this connection.
  2. Cut the crank wire.
  3. Connect the heavy red wire on the immobilisation relay harness (CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00) to the end of the crank wire that goes to the ignition switch (see red arrows in image below).

  5. Solder the wire connections.

Step 7: Connect the device harness

For CalAmp installations

  1. Plug the large male connector on the T-harness (CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00) into the CalAmp device (see red arrow in image below).
    cnct_T-harness.png
  2. Plug the CalAmp harness into the large female connector on the T-harness (see yellow arrow in image above).
  3. Plug the 6-pin male connector on the T-harness (CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00) into the 6-pin female connector on the immobilisation relay harness (CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00) (see green area in image below).
