Installation guide: Road-facing camera (model 2)
Once you have connected all the wires as shown in the quick start guide, use the Activate camera feature in the Integrated Video app to guide you through each step of the installation process. More detailed instructions are included below.

Connect the camera cables
2. Connect cable A to the camera.
3. If you ordered an extra storage SD card, place the card into the SD slot.
4. Replace the security cover and leave the key in the lock.
5. Connect cable A to the DC power adaptor.
6. Connect the wiring harness (B) to the DC power adaptor.
7. Connect the wiring harness (B) to the connector cable (C or E) or the OBD-II passthrough depending on your vehicle type.
Connect the camera to the power source
The camera needs to be connected to a power source.
Before connecting the camera, ensure that the engine is switched off and the DC power adaptor is switched on.
To connect your camera to a power source, you need to use the correct connector for the vehicle.
- For light commercial or private vehicles (12V only), use the OBD-II connector (cable C) when the OBD-II port is available. Use the OBD-II passthrough when the OBD-II port is connected to a Y-cable or extension cable with a vehicle tracker.
- For heavy trucks (12V only), use the 3-wire connector (cable E).
- For light-duty vehicles manufactured before 1996 or heavy trucks with 6 pin connectors use, use the 3-wire connector (cable E).
Connecting to an OBD-II port (cable C)
1. Locate the port
The location of the OBD-II port varies from vehicle to vehicle. The most common location is to the left of the steering wheel, underneath the dashboard. The diagram shows other possible locations. Go to the Hum website to search by vehicle make, model, and year.
2. Firmly connect the cable to the OBD-II port.
Connecting to an OBD-II port (Y-cable or extension cable)
- Locate the vehicle tracker. If it's already secured to the vehicle, unmount it from its mounting location.
- Ensure that the OBD-II passthrough is connected to the Y-cable's device connector or the extension cable.
- Ensure that the vehicle tracker is connected to the OBD-II passthrough. For more information, see the installation guide for your vehicle tracker.
- Ensure that the Y-cable or extension cable is connected to your vehicle's OBD-II port.
Connecting using the 3-wire connector (cable E)
Important: Ensure that the driver door is open during the entire installation process.
If you are adding a 3-wire connected camera to an existing 3-wire connected GPS installation, you can splice into its existing constant, ignition and ground connections or use a stainless ring terminal to make your own ground connection.
We recommended using butt connectors or posit-taps. We do not recommend Add A-Fuse, fuse taps or Scotch lock type connectors for wiring.
Black wire - ground
With the vehicle’s engine off, attach the black wire directly to a chassis ground point or to a ground line (chassis ground) by splicing directly to a ground lead or by using a poke and wrap method (see below).
Red wire - continuous power
With the vehicle’s engine OFF, use the voltmeter to locate a 12-volt battery lead and attach the Red Wire by splicing directly to the lead or by using a poke and wrap method. If attaching to a fused lead or using an in-line fuse (not necessary), verify that it is at least 5 amps.
Be careful not to confuse a retained accessory power (RAP) line with a true continuous power line (12 volt, always online).
To determine a true continuous power source:
- Ensure the driver door is open.
- Select a wire.
- With vehicle’s engine switched off, use a voltmeter to measure the DC voltage on the wire. It should show 12 VDC or higher.
White wire - ignition power
With the vehicle’s engine switched off, use the voltmeter to locate an ignition line with switched power and attach the white wire to the line by splicing directly to the lead or by using a poke and wrap method.
- Do not use an inline fuse on this line.
- Do not use accessory power.
Poke and wrap method
- Locate the correct wire.
- Strip the insulation from a section of the wire.
- Make a hole through the exposed wire
- Insert cable through hole.
- Wrap cable tight and insulate with electrical tape.
- Place zip ties over the electrical tape on each side of the connection.
Switch camera on
When the camera is connected to the power source, switch on the ignition to turn the camera on.
During the camera boot-up process, the red, blue, and green lights will flash in sequence.

If the blue and green lights are not solid after 10 minutes, troubleshoot the camera indicator lights.
Identify the camera
Use the Integrated Video app to scan the barcode to identify the camera.
Each camera has a unique barcode and serial number. The serial number can be found on the camera itself and on the box that the camera came in.
To identify the camera, you scan the barcode using the Integrated Video app (See Camera installation guide - before you begin if you do not yet have the app).
In the Integrated Video app:
- Go to Settings > Add new camera or device.

Hold your device so that the barcode appears in the app viewfinder. The app will automatically identify the camera.
Alternatively, you can enter the serial number manually. To do this, select Manual Input, enter the serial number using the keypad, and then select Next.
In the Spotlight app:
- In Spotlight, go to Account > Device setup.
- On the What do you want to install? screen, tap Camera.

Hold your device so that the barcode appears in the app viewfinder. The app will automatically identify the camera.

Choose camera placement
Before attaching the camera to the windshield, you need to choose the most appropriate location. When choosing a location, consider the following:
- The camera should be placed as high as possible within the wiper sweep zone of the windshield on the driver’s side.
- The camera portion of the device should reside in the top 2 inches (5 cm) of the wiper zone.
- The camera must not obstruct the driver's view of the road ahead.
- Avoid placing the camera near the vehicle's climate control system, as excess heat can interfere with the camera operation.
- Leave enough space to remove the key from the security cover.
The camera can be placed anywhere within the highlighted area.
It is your company’s responsibility to ensure that the usage of dashcams in vehicles complies with all applicable laws and regulations in your region.
Stick to windshield
The windshield glass temperature should not be too hot or cold. Please install the camera in a moderate temperature (recommended between 10-26°C or 50-80°F).
1. Use the supplied wipes to clean and dry the area on the windshield where the camera will be placed.
2. Peel off the protective strip from the adhesive pad.
3. Stick the camera to the windshield.
4. Hold the camera in position with firm pressure for 30 seconds.
Align the camera
The camera should point directly at the road ahead, with no obstructions.
1. Adjust the angle of the camera
- Move the security cover slightly so that the camera can be adjusted.
- Adjust the camera relative to the slope of the vehicle’s windshield.
- Replace the security cover.
2. Test the camera placement
- In the app, you will see a preview image. Ensure the camera is correctly aligned and that nothing obstructs the view.
- Once you are happy with the location and the view, replace the security cover and lock.
- In the app, choose Next.
Tidy away the cables
If you are installing a driver-facing camera too, attach it to the connector before tidying away the cables.
To tidy away the camera cables, to ensure they do not obstruct the drivers view:
- Secure the power cable extension into the headliner panels and down the A-pillar. Do not put the video connector behind the A-pillar.
or
- Use the cable ties provided to secure the cables out of the view of the driver. Then route the power cable around the side and behind the rest of the interior panels down towards the power source.
If you had to unmount the vehicle tracker, mount, and secure it in a stable location. If you are installing a driver-facing camera too, wait until after the camera is installed before you mount and secure the vehicle tracker.
Pair the camera with a vehicle and activate
The camera must be paired with a vehicle so that when the camera detects a harsh driving incident, it can be associated with a particular vehicle.
In the app, on the Identify Vehicle screen, choose the vehicle to pair with the camera.
Choose the vehicle from the list or by searching for the vehicle by the vehicle name, vehicle identification number (VIN), vehicle registration number (REG), or electronic serial number (ESN).
Select Next.
Confirm that the camera is paired with the correct vehicle and then select Activate camera.
