Overview
A Verizon Connect immobiliser works by interrupting the vehicle starter circuit. The immobiliser is controlled by a single pole changeover relay that is driven by a vehicle tracker.
For further information about relays, see Overview guide: Relays.
The image below shows the setup of the relay and the vehicle tracker.
Relay contacts 30 and 87a are Normally Closed (NC).
- When contacts 30 and 87a are closed, they allow the vehicle to start.
- The vehicle is prevented from starting when the ignition is ON and the immobiliser is active.
Step 1: Begin the vehicle tracker installation
- Refer to the relevant vehicle tracker installation guide:
-
Perform the vehicle tracker installation as far as the section about adding optional peripherals.
Step 2: Gather your tools
Depending on the vehicle type, you may need the following tools:
- Dash panel removal tools
- Digital multimeter
- Soldering iron and solder
- Wire cutters
- Work light
-
Zip ties
Step 3: Obtain the required parts
The following parts are required:
- Immobilisation relay harness (part number CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00)
-
Vehicle tracker harness:
Required for CalAmp installations:- T-harness (part number: CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00), and
-
CalAmp 26xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00), or
CalAmp 42xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-005-01-00)
The T-harness is supplied with the immobiliser relay harness.
The CalAmp harness is supplied with the CalAmp device.
Required for Raliacom installations:-
Raliacom harness (part number CBH-IE-RAL-001-04-00)
The Raliacom harness is supplied with the Raliacom device.
Step 4: Identify the parts
Immobilisation relay harness
Part number: CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00
The part number is on the bag label.
Identify the heavy red wire, the heavy blue wire, and the 6-pin connector on the harness.
Vehicle tracker harness
CalAmp installations require a T-harness and a CalAmp harness.
Raliacom installations require a Raliacom harness only.
CalAmp installations
-
T-harness (part number: CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00)
The part number is on the T-harness label.
Identify the two large connectors and the 6-pin connector on the T-harness.
-
CalAmp harness:
-
CalAmp 26xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00), or
CalAmp 42xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-005-01-00)
-
CalAmp 26xx harness (part number CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00), or
Identify the large male connector on the CalAmp harness.
Raliacom installations
Raliacom harness (part number: CBH-IE-RAL-001-04-00).
Identify the 6-pin connector (female) on the Raliacom harness.
Step 5: Cut the relay wire (24-volt installations only)
For 24-volt installations, cut the white wire on the immobilisation relay harness.
The white wire is labelled ”Cut for 24V installations”.
For 12-volt installations, leave the white wire uncut.
Step 6: Connect the immobilisation relay harness to the vehicle
-
Use a digital multimeter to identify the crank wire in the vehicle.
Vehicles that have an ignition key switch may have an accessible crank wire at the switch location.
Vehicles that have a push button start may require a connection at a fuse board or control panel elsewhere in the vehicle. Check the vehicle owner's manual for suggested locations for this connection. - Cut the crank wire.
-
Connect the heavy red wire on the immobilisation relay harness (CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00) to the end of the crank wire that goes to the ignition switch (see red arrows in image below).
-
Connect the heavy blue wire on the immobilisation relay harness (CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00) to the end of the crank wire that goes to the starter motor (see orange arrows in image below).
-
Solder the wire connections.
Step 7: Connect the device harness
For CalAmp installations
-
Plug the large male connector on the T-harness (CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00) into the CalAmp device (see red arrow in image below).
- Plug the CalAmp harness into the large female connector on the T-harness (see yellow arrow in image above).
-
Plug the 6-pin male connector on the T-harness (CBU-IE-CAL-004-01-00) into the 6-pin female connector on the immobilisation relay harness (CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00) (see green area in image below).
For Raliacom installations
Plug the 6-pin connector on the Raliacom harness (CBH-IE-RAL-001-04-00) into the 6-pin female connector on the immobilisation relay harness (CBU-IE-IMR-001-02-00).
