Installation guide: Driver ID
Skill level: Basic
The installation can be performed quickly and easily by individuals of any ability.
Time required: 10-15 minutes
The Driver ID equipment consists of a key fob, a reader, and a buzzer that will sound if the vehicle is started without using the key fob.
In this guide:
Installing a Driver ID
- Find a suitable location to install the reader, that is convenient for the driver to use and has a minimum 3/4” (19 mm) clearance depth behind where you intend to mount it.
- Drill a hole in the mounting location using a 3/8” (9.5 mm) drill bit.
- Remove the retaining washer from the 2-pin connector.
- Feed the wire from the reader through the front side of the hole.
- Apply gentle pressure to seat the reader.
- Slide the washer over the connector, then up the length of the wire and over the stem of the reader to secure it against the panel.
- Plug the 2 pin Driver ID reader into the telematics unit harness’s 2 pin connector.
- Coil any excess wire from the reader and secure it using zip ties to prevent it from interfering with the driver and safe operation of the vehicle controls.
- Reinstall any panels that were removed during installation.
Verifying a Driver ID installation
Ensure the vehicle ignition is turned off for at least 10 minutes.
The buzzer will only function (emits sounds) after the vehicle ignition is turned off for 10 minutes.
Turn on the vehicle ignition.
The buzzer will beep for one second.
Wait for 30 seconds with the ignition on.
The buzzer will sound continuously.
Place the key fob (badge) in the appropriate recess of the Driver ID reader.
The buzzer will stop sounding.
You must use the key fob (badge) that was supplied with the installed Driver ID reader.
When the buzzer stops sounding, the verification is complete.
If the buzzer does not emit sound during verification:
- Check the buzzer connection as described in Installing a Driver ID.
- Repeat the verification by performing steps 1 to 4 again.
- If, after your checks, the buzzer still does not emit sound during verification, Contact Support.

Tracking hardware connected to the diagnostic port in any vehicle that has third-party devices also connected to the diagnostic port can cause interference or loss of functionality of the third-party device. These third-party devices include, but are not limited to, wheelchair lifts, lifesaving equipment, emergency lighting, and radar guns. If such a conflict exists, contact Verizon Connect support to have the tracking hardware configured to support the third-party device. Failure to do so relieves Verizon Connect of all liability for damages that arise from or are connected with your use of the devices. Installed devices may only be removed and transferred to another vehicle if the second vehicle has been tested for compatibility, as per the(se) instructions. Transfers between vehicles which do not follow the(se) instructions will void any and all warranties from Verizon Connect, and relieve Verizon Connect of all liability for damages that arise from or are connected with your use of the devices.
