Step 1: Begin the vehicle tracker installation
- Refer to the vehicle tracker installation guide.
- Perform the vehicle tracker installation as far as the section about adding optional peripherals.
Step 2: Gather your tools
Depending on the vehicle type, you may need the following tools:
- Work light
- Drill with a 10 mm (13/32 inch) drill bit.
Step 3: Identify the parts of the panic/privacy button
(A) Panic/privacy button with LED
(B) Lock nut and washer
(C) Cable
(D) Connector for the vehicle tracker (connects to either an adapter or directly to the vehicle tracker).
Step 4: Choose a mounting location for the panic/privacy button
-
Find a suitable location for the panic/privacy button on or around the vehicle dash.
Note: The button must be located within easy reach of the driver.
Caution: The button should not be mounted in the driver's line of sight. The button’s LED can be bright at night and may dazzle the driver. -
Check behind the chosen location to ensure there is enough space to mount the button.
Note: There should be at least 1 inch (3cm) of space behind the panel to give the button harness adequate clearance. If there is not enough clearance, the mounted button could put stress on the panel or on components behind the panel.
Step 5: Mount the panic/privacy button
-
Drill a 10 mm (13/32 inch) hole at your chosen mounting location.
Caution: Drilling a panel could damage components that are behind the panel. Always look before you drill so you do not damage adjacent equipment.
- Loosen and remove the lock nut and washer from the back of the panic/privacy button
- Pull the cable through the drilled hole.
-
Reattach the lock nut and washer.
Note: Do not over tighten the lock nut on the back of the panic/privacy button as this can damage the button or the vehicle panel.
Step 6: Connect the panic/privacy button to the vehicle tracker
- Attach the button’s cable to the matching 4-pin connector of the vehicle tracker’s I/O harness.
-
Secure all loose or excess cables.
Caution: Ensure the cable will not interfere with the driver or normal operation of the vehicle.
Step 7: Test the privacy feature
- Start the vehicle.
-
Press and hold the panic/privacy button for 1 second.
The button’s LED turns on and remains on for the duration of the privacy session. - To reset or turn off the privacy feature, press and hold the button for 1 second.
Step 8: Test the panic feature
-
With the vehicle on or off, press and hold the panic/privacy button for 7 seconds.
The LED will flash continuously.
Note: The vehicle’s ignition status does not affect the LED behaviour. The LED will continue to flash until it is reset. - To reset or turn off the panic feature, press and hold the button for 10 seconds.
