Video: How to connect a CAN bus using click devices

This video covers the use of an induction or click device, which can be used where an active FMS connection is not available.
- Vehicle CAN systems have a high and a low connection. It's imperative that the wires are the correct way round when making a connection to a vehicle.
- Identify the vehicle CAN wires. They'll always be in a twisted pair to reduce interference.
- First, untwist the wires sufficiently for the click device to be inserted. This can be tricky, as they're often in a tight space.
- Place the vehicle CAN high and CAN low wires along the correct channels on the click device, and close the lid.
- This device does not remove or strip the insulation off the vehicle wires. It can read a signal through the insulation. This allows you to make an extremely safe connection, which causes no damage to the vehicle wiring.
- This connection is passive, which means we can only read data from the vehicle. We can't send data back.
- Once the connection is tested and shown to be working correctly, place a cable tie around the click device in such a way that it doesn't touch the vehicle wires.
- Cut off any excess length using side cutters, ensuring any cut ends won't cause injury.
