Camera mounting position recommendations
During the installation process, we recommend one camera mounting position for all vehicle types. This meets the FMCSA rules and enables camera AI detection to work.

Our mounting position recommendations are in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidance.
Our mounting position recommendations are not the same as legal advice. For legal guidance, seek independent legal counsel.
We recommend mounting a camera as close to the center of the windshield as possible, within the green shaded area of the image above.
When choosing a location, consider the following:
-
The camera must not obstruct the driver's view of the road ahead.
-
Make sure the lens is not obstructed by the sun visors, rear view mirror, or the windshield shaded sun strip. The sun strip obscures the road-facing camera image and is in the position of the vehicle's climate control system. Excess heat can interfere with the camera’s operation.
Do not mount the camera to the dashboard.
We recommend mounting a camera on either windshield, nearest to the split down the center. Try to keep within the green shaded area of the image above.
You must use a wedge to accurately align the camera. If you do not have a wedge, do not proceed with an installation and contact Support to order a wedge.
