Installation guide: Driver ID

The Driver ID equipment consists of a key fob (A), a reader (B), and a buzzer (C) that will sound if the vehicle is started without using the key fob.

Installing a Driver ID

1. Find a suitable location to install the reader, that is convenient for the driver to use and has a minimum 3/4” (19 mm) clearance depth behind where you intend to mount it.
   
2. Drill a hole in the mounting location using a 3/8” (9.5 mm) drill bit.
   
   
   
3. Remove the retaining washer from the 2-pin connector.
4. Feed the wire from the reader through the front side of the hole.
5. Apply gentle pressure to seat the reader.
6. Slide the washer over the connector, then up the length of the wire and over the stem of the reader to secure it against the panel.
   
   
7. Plug the 2-pin Driver ID reader into the 2-pin connector on the telematics unit harness.
8. Coil any excess wire from the reader and secure it using zip ties to prevent it from interfering with the driver and safe operation of the vehicle controls.
9. Reinstall any panels that were removed during installation.

Installing a buzzer

Some telematics devices come with an internal buzzer while others use an external buzzer that is connected to the device's I/O harness.

Refer to the vehicle tracker's installation guide for details about the I/O harness connectors.
If you have an external buzzer, install it as follows:

1. Connect the 3-pin external buzzer connector to the I/O harness's matching 3-pin connection.
2. Tape the buzzer to the device with electrical tape.

Verifying a Driver ID installation

1. Ensure the vehicle ignition is turned off for at least 10 minutes.
   The buzzer will only function (emit sound) after the vehicle ignition is turned off for 10 minutes.
2. Turn on the vehicle ignition.
   The buzzer will beep for one second.
   
3. Wait for 30 seconds with the ignition on.
   The buzzer will sound continuously.
4. Place the key fob in the appropriate recess of the Driver ID reader.
   The buzzer will stop sounding to confirm the fob was successfully read.
   You must use the key fob that was supplied with the installed Driver ID reader.

If the buzzer does not emit sound during verification:

• Check the buzzer connection as detailed above in Installing a buzzer and Installing a Driver ID.
• Repeat the verification by performing steps 1 to 4 again.

If the buzzer does not emit sound or the Driver ID reader fails to recognize the fob, Contact Support to see if the configuration needs to be updated or if the Driver ID and buzzer need to be replaced.
