Overview: Installation tools

Most installation do not require all of the following tools. Due to the constantly changing designs of vehicles, we recommend that you are fully prepared for all vehicle types.

Required tools

Note: All items listed in this section must be brought to the job site.

  • Standard screwdriver set (all sizes)

  • Torx/hex bits

  • Socket set (standard/metric)

  • 1/4" magnetic driver bit

  • Wire cutters

  • Crimping tool (may be be combined with wire cutters)

  • Wire strippers (automatic side strippers recommended)

  • Panel tool (plastic)

  • Pick tool set

  • Radio removal keys

  • Electric tape

  • Cable ties

  • Connector

  • Cordless drill/driver (with 2 charged batteries)

  • Step drill bit set

  • Digital multi-meter (NOT test light or probe)

    Caution: Always use a digital multi-meter. Never use test light or probes as they are not safe to be used on a vehicle's electronic circuits and will cause serious damage to the ignition circuit.

  • Cellular telephone

    When testing or checking in an installation or repair, you must be at the vehicle when testing the ignition cycle or troubleshooting. This requires a cellular phone.

Recommend tools

  • Soldering iron (butane)

  • Work light/torch/head light

  • Reach tool

  • Alcohol prep pad or cloth
