There are two main types of GPS vehicle trackers (sometimes called aftermarket devices or vehicle tracking units) available for tracking your vehicles in Reveal. While they all serve the same basic function, there are some differences in the data they collect, how they attach to a vehicle and how they are powered.

Plug-in vehicle trackers

Plug-in (or plug-and-play) vehicle trackers are suitable for light duty vehicles and can be plugged directly into the vehicle’s diagnostic port (either an OBD-II or a JBUS port) or connected to the port using optional cables.

Plug-in devices, such as the Vehicle Data Device, can be installed using the Spotlight app.

Hard-wired vehicle trackers

Hard-wired vehicle trackers (such as the Xirgo) are suitable for light and heavy duty vehicles, and are connected to a vehicle with a three-wire connection.

These devices are preferred when adding features like power take-off (PTO) monitoring, ELD and Driver ID.

Hard-wired devices are usually installed by a Verizon Connect installation partner or a qualified mechanic.
