Step 1: International PTO - Switch

  • PTO switch should look like this.
    • Located center of dash.
    • Switch does not switch polarity like a normal switch.
    • Can not acquire PTO signal here.
    • Controls a RPM (Remote Power Module) to turn on and off PTO via J1708.

Step 2: Locating RPM - Remote Power Module

  • There can be more than 1 RPM on the vehicle and it can be located in different areas and used for other purposes as seen in this documentation from International.

Step 3: RPM Location - Durastar

  • The most common Model of international we see is the Durastar 4200/4400/4600.
  • The RPM for PTO is commonly located behind the driver's seat.
  • Less commonly it can also be found under the battery box as seen here.

  • On the Workstar 7000 models the RPM is commonly found under the drivers rear corner of the cab as seen here.

Step 5: International OEM PTO System Examples

  • The system diagrams show the most common PTO systems from the OEM.

  • What we look for at the RPM is either:
    • PTO feedback wire (preferred)
    • PTO Drive output (powers the solinoid)

Step 6: Test for PTO wire

  • The PTO feed back wire can be found at the Black plug.
  • The PTO drive output wire can be found at the brown plug.
  • The PTO feedback wire is the preferred connection.

These RPMs are very configurable and dictates which wire location is used per configuration. This means the wire color and location can change from truck to truck. Installer should test using a DMM only! NO TEST LIGHTS!

 Step 7: Relay

  • Use a relay to send (-) ground signal to our device when PTO is on.
  • See hardware specific page for general diagram.
