Technician guide: Dual-Facing AI Dashcam using Reveal Hardware Installer app
This guide describes how to install the Dual-Facing AI Dashcam. Download the Reveal Hardware Installer app and follow the installation instructions.

Depending on your vehicle type, you might need some of the following tools:

Make sure that:
-
The vehicle has a tracker installed.
-
The vehicle is in an area with good network coverage.
-
The vehicle is parked on a flat surface with at least 25 yards/23 meters of clear space ahead. This allows for accurate calibration and estimation of the horizon.

You turn off your ignition.
-
The windshield temperature is not too hot or cold, recommended between 50°F to 80°F (10-26°C). To regulate the temperature, park indoors, park in the shade or use your vehicle’s air conditioning system.
Do not stick the camera to the windshield until step 8.
To install the camera, you must use the Reveal Hardware Installer app (Verizon Connect Installation Partners only).
The camera has a unique electronic serial number (ESN) and barcode that can be found on the camera and on the box.

Type the camera's ESN, or
-
Tap SCAN and hold the camera so that the barcode appears in the app’s viewfinder. The app automatically identifies the serial number and loads the next step.
The camera must be assigned to a vehicle so that when the camera detects a harsh driving incident, it can be associated with a particular vehicle.

Type in the vehicle identification number (VIN), or
-
Tap SCAN and hold the camera so that the barcode appears in the app’s viewfinder. The app automatically identifies the serial number and loads the next step.

To search by ESN or license plate number, tap Change search method.
-

In the search results, tap the correct vehicle and start the installation.
The camera needs to be connected to a power source using the correct connector.
There are a few ways to do this, depending on your vehicle type.
-
For light commercial or private vehicles (12V only), skip to Connect to an OBD-II port (cable C).
-
For heavy trucks, light-duty vehicles manufactured before 1996 and heavy trucks with 9-pin connectors, skip to Connect to a 9-pin connector (cable D).

Professional installers should skip to Connect using the 3-wire connector (cable E). This installation method is only recommended for advanced installers with experience of undertaking electrical wiring work.

Connect cable (A) to cable (C).
-
Locate your vehicle’s OBD-II port.
-
The port is usually located under the dashboard or beneath the steering wheel column. If not located beneath the steering column, find the OBD-II port.
-
Firmly connect cable C to the OBD-II port.
-
If the port is already in use, you will need to install using a passthrough cable. To order a passthrough cable, contact Support.

Turn on the ignition.
-
Wait 5 minutes for the camera to boot up. The red, blue, and green lights will flash in sequence.
-
You will hear a single beep which indicates your camera is plugged in correctly and receiving power. If the blue and green lights are not solid after 5 minutes, troubleshoot the camera indicator lights. Some vehicles may power up the camera before the ignition is turned on.

In the app, tap Next.

Skip to step 2.

Connect cable (A) to cable (D). They may already be connected.

Locate your vehicle’s 9-pin connector port.
-
The port is usually located under the dashboard or beneath the steering wheel column.
-
Firmly connect the cable to the port and twist to lock the connection. If the port is already in use, you will need to install using a passthrough cable. To order a passthrough cable, contact Support.

Turn on the ignition.
-
Wait 5 minutes for the camera to boot up. The red, blue, and green lights will flash in sequence.
-
You will hear a single beep which indicates your device is plugged in correctly and receiving power. If the blue and green lights are not solid after 5 minutes, troubleshoot the camera indicator lights. Some vehicles may power up the camera before the ignition is turned on.

In the app, tap Next.

Note
This installation method is only recommended for advanced installers with experience of undertaking electrical wiring work.

Connect cable (A) to cable (E). They may already be connected.
-
If you are adding a 3-wire connected camera to an existing 3-wire connected GPS installation, you may use the poke and wrap method to connect to its existing power and ground connections if they have been made per Verizon Connect’s installation and electrical connection policy and approved wiring methods.

Make sure the engine is switched off.
-
Make sure the camera is plugged into your 3-wire connector.
-
Find the red wire (constant power).
-
Use the digital multimeter to locate a 12V battery lead for a 12V system or a 24V battery lead for a 24V system.
-
Attach the red wire to the constant batt+ power source or by using the poke and wrap method.
-
If attaching the red wire to a fused lead or using an in-line fuse, check that it is at least 5 amps. Be careful not to confuse a retained accessory power (RAP) line with a true continuous power line (12V/24V, always online).
-
Determine a continuous power source by selecting a wire and measuring its DC voltage on a digital multimeter. It should show 12V/24V.

Find the white wire (ignition power).
-
Attach the camera's white wire to an ignition power source.
-
Use a digital multimeter to verify true ignition which should read 0V with the key off and not drop below 9V while the engine is cranking.

Find the black wire (ground).
-
Attach the camera's ground wire to a factory marked bolt or spare ground lead per Verizon Connect’s installation and electrical connection policy. It is acceptable to make a chassis ground in light duty vehicles.
Note
Do not make a chassis ground in late model heavy duty vehicles or construction equipment.

Turn on the ignition.
-
Wait 5 minutes for the camera to boot up. The red, blue, and green lights will flash in sequence.

You will hear a single beep which indicates your camera is plugged in correctly and receiving power. If the blue and green lights are not solid after 5 minutes, troubleshoot the camera indicator lights. Some vehicles may power up the camera before the ignition is turned on.

In the app, tap Next.

Skip to step 2.

Locate the correct wire.
-
Strip the insulation from a section of the wire.
-
Make a hole through the exposed wire.
-
Insert the cable through the hole.
-
Wrap the cable tight and insulate with electrical tape.
-
Place zip ties over the electrical tape on each side of the connection.
-
Hold the camera upright with Verizon Connect’s logo facing you. The mounting bracket is attached to the back.
-
Unscrew and unclip the right-hand side panel. This allows you to adjust the camera angle and lock the camera.
-
The two captive screws will remain connected to the panel.
-
-
In the app, tap Next.
-
Locate the SD card slot which is below the SIM card slot.
-
The camera comes with a SD card inserted. Remove it by pressing down gently on the card once - it will pop out.
-
Insert the new SD card in the camera by pushing it back into the SD slot until it clicks into place.
-
Sit in the driver’s seat.
-
Pull down both sun visors.
-
Hold the camera in the spot you want to mount it, anywhere within the shaded area of the image above.
-
In the app, tap Next.
When choosing a location, consider the following:
-
The camera must not obstruct the driver's view of the road ahead.
-
Make sure the lens is not obstructed by the sun visors, rear view mirror, or the windshield shaded sun strip. The sun strip obscures the road-facing camera image and is in the position of the vehicle's climate control system. Excess heat can interfere with the camera’s operation.
Note
Do not stick the camera to the windshield until step 8.

Hold the camera in the spot you want to mount it.
-
In step 4 of the app, you will see a preview image.
-
Adjust the camera angle so it has a clear view of the road ahead. To adjust the camera angle, rotate the mounting lens up and down.
-
Make sure the red line is on the horizon (at least 25 yards/23 meters ahead).
-
In the app, tap Next.
-
Hold the camera in the spot you want to mount it.
-
In step 5 of the app, you will see a preview image. The camera has a 120° field of view, so it covers most of the vehicle interior.
-
Adjust the camera angle so it points towards the center of the cabin. To adjust the camera angle, rotate the mounting lens up and down.
-
Make sure the driver's headrest is within the top quarter of the preview.
-
In the app, tap Next.
-
Clean the area on the windshield where the camera will be mounted using the alcohol wipes provided.
-
Let the windshield dry for 60 seconds and fully dry with a cloth.
-
In the app, tap Next.
-
If you have a split-screen windshield, follow the next step. If not, skip to step 8.
Caution
For vehicles with split-screen windshields, you must use a wedge to accurately align the camera. If you do not have a wedge, do not proceed with the installation and contact Support to order a wedge.

Hold the wedge to the windshield. The wedge should be angled so that it allows the camera bracket to face parallel with the road instead of the windshield.

Peel off the protective layer from the mounting pad on the camera bracket.
-
Stick the wedge to the camera bracket and press firmly for 30 seconds.
-
Make sure the windshield temperature is not too hot or cold, recommended between 50°F to 80°F (10-26°C). Otherwise, the mounting pad will not bond correctly to the windshield.

Remove the protective tabs from both camera lenses.
-
Peel off the protective layer from the mounting pad on the camera bracket (or the wedge).
-
Stick the bracket or wedge to the windshield and press firmly for 30 seconds.
-
In the app, tap Next.
-
Remove the camera from the bracket by sliding it firmly to the left.
-
Tighten the lock using the screwdriver provided.
-
Slide the camera back onto the bracket until it clicks into place.
-
In the app, tap Next.
-
Replace the side panel.
-
Lock by tightening the two screws using the screwdriver provided.
-
In the app, tap Next.
-
Hide any cables so they don’t obstruct the driver’s view.
-
Use the tool provided to tuck the power cable into the headliner and down the A-pillar, without obstructing the airbags.
-
Route the power cable around the side or behind the interior panels, down towards the power source.
-
Secure any loose cabling to the vehicle and coil using the cable ties provided.
-
Make sure the cables do not interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle.

In the app, tap Next.
-
While not in use, store the privacy covers and quick guide for drivers in the drawstring bag provided, somewhere within the driver’s reach. For example, leave the bag in the vehicle's cup holder or driver-side door panel.

Find the privacy sticker and stick it to the driver’s door window. Scan the QR code to read a drivers guide to dashcams and Integrated Video.
